Hidden fat : beware !

You try to eat healthy and you watch your diet. But sometimes, calories and fat are hidden in unexpected dishes.

How to find it ? Can you really eat a little lighter? Follow our tips so that you wont get any longer surprised by what's going on in your plate !

Here is a quick 10-point program to avoid hidden fat :

1 - Beware of cold starters ..

A balanced meal should include an appetizer such as vegetables. That's perfect ! But beware of some preparations or some vegetables that are rich in fat. This is the case of celery remoulade, salad, beets (with dressing), eggplant caviar (and other appetizers containing olive oil) ... prefer tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and even tabbouleh ! Be careful with avocado, which contains lot of fat too.

2 - ... and hot appetizers!

If you prefer hot starters, you'll have to limit your consumption ... A portion of quiche will provide 40 grams of fat, mozzarella sticks or even meat will provide 30 grams of fat. In general, prefer cold appetizers ... or choose a soup!

3 – Dangerous cocktail time !

Beware the pitfalls such as olives, rich in lipids: prefer green olives ! Small cocktail sausages also are traitors: they contain about 30 grams of fat per 100 g. Peanuts and pistachio nuts are also very rich in fat. Almonds are a good choice : they contain unsaturated fats and are good for cholesterol (but eat no more than a handful ...). Exotic dried fruits are also a good option

hidden-fat 4 – Cooked pork meats

If you're a fan of sausage, it's hard to avoid fat, hidden or not. Pate or rillettes are of course limited. You can eat some slices of salami (5 maximum). But avoid the chorizo, salami. Ham or smoked ham are the better choices to avoid fat.

5 - Meat

Concerning meat, a roast, steak or steak chopped beef (5%) do not bring too much fat. The steak or roast veal are already fatter. Ditto for the roast or pork chop. And the lamb meat is one of the fattest. Game contains generally less fat. And if you opt for poultry, turkey is slightly lower in fat than chicken. In any case, eat them sparingly merguez sausages, Frankfurt, Morteau chipolatas and even black pudding or white.

6 - Fish

Fish is always a great choice in nutrition. Only caution, avoid fried fish and prefer cooking steam, broth or baked. Among fish, salmon is among the fattest, but it contains unsaturated fat, which is very good for the heart ..

7 – Side dish

Side dishes vegetables are not likely to bring any hidden fat ... except possibly the ratatouille. And among the starchy food, avoid pastas cooked in butter, fried apples or, of course, fries.

8 - The cheese

Regarding the cheese, a small portion of it (30g / 1 ounce) will not bring you too much fat. Eat fresh goat cheese, coulommiers, brie or Camembert. Avoid Swiss cheese or blue cheese.

9 - Hidden fat : Desserts

Desserts will bring more sugar than fat! In all cases, the best way to avoid the calories and to end the meal on a sweet note is to eat fruit, compotes, yoghurts, light creams. Some desserts however will bring a significant amount of lipids (fat) : pies, cakes, tiramisu, pastries ...

10 - Snacks

You feel hungry at four o'clock, and you want to eat a cookie? Prefer fruits, gingerbread or biscuits. Avoid macaroons, brownies and cakes.

And remember that in terms of nutrition, pleasure is essential!
