Diet Plans and Vegetarian Nutrition
Well, most diet plans you see don’t exactly follow vegetarian nutrition guidelines.
Hey, even the cabbage soup diet recipe includes meat! But don’t worry, it is possible to adopt most diet plans to fit a vegetarian diet.
Why is there so much meat in many diet plans?
Many effective diet plans include lots of non-vegetarian foods. Of course, the Atkins Diet Plans comes to mind...
But also the less aggressive South Beach Diet includes lots of meat, chicken and fish.
Why is this then...?
The well-known secret is that meat, chicken and fish are easy suppliers of protein without carbs.
As Proteins are generally beneficial and as (bad) carbs should be restricted meat, chicken and fish are a staple in most diet plans.
Vegetarian nutrition plans for weight loss
The good news: Adopting a diet plan to fit a vegetarian diet is not all that difficult!
There are also vegetarian foods that you can use to include lots of protein in your diet plan. It is a little more difficult if you want to follow a vegan diet and don’t want to include any eggs in your diet.
Some vegetarian foods that have a good protein value include:
- beans
- eggs
- (soy) milk
- plain yogurt
- firm tofu
- soy-based meat replacers: veggie "burgers", "hot dogs" and "sausages"
- other meat-replacer mixes
- soy protein powder
- nonfat or low-fat cheese like low-fat cottage cheese
These foods will allow you to adopt a diet plan like the South Beach Diet to fit your vegetarian lifestyle!
