Have Proper Weight Loss Motivation!

Why your weight loss motivation is so important:

If losing weight would be easy there wouldn't be so much money spend on so called magical solutions.

But, unfortunately, losing weight is hard. We love food and we need it – every single day.

So you need to have a great weight loss motivation before you start out to lose 20, 40, 70 or 100 pounds. Otherwise your diet will appear too hard, your weight loss exercise program too stressful and you will slack off on taking your supplements.

Determination and persistence are the most important variables in the weight loss equation.

Nothing can replace determination and persistence.

It is therefore absolutely critical that you have the right weight loss motivation before you prepare for your weight loss journey.

What is the right weight loss motivation?

There are many reasons that you may want to lose weight. Many of them are great. Let’s think about the many reasons you should be absolutely determined to shed the excess baggage you carry. But let’s also think about why losing weight might not be the right thing to do for you.

Why and when you should be losing weight:

1.) What does your body mass index (BMI) say?
If your bmi is above 30 you are most likely obese. In that case you should consult with your doctor if you should be losing weight. The answer will most likely be "yes".
If your bmi is between 25 and 29 you should compare the benefits with the risk of losing weight. Consult your doctor about your specific case and share your weight loss motivation. Think about your ideal weight!

2.) Losing weight will bring great health benefits! For example...
...you can reduce your risk of high blood pressure
...you can reduce your risk of facing heart and artery related problems and diseases
...you can reduce your risk of getting diabetes
...you can reduce your risk of getting a stroke

3.) Losing weight can build great confidence:
Your main reason for losing weight should be the health benefits and not being part of the global epidemic of obesity any longer. However, when you want to - and then do - achieve something as difficult as losing weight, you can use this as a great source of self-esteem and confidence building.

Use the experience of setting a goal, discovering the means to achieve it and then following through all the way as a blueprint when you face your next problem, whatever it might be. You will have made it – be proud of it!

4.) Losing weight can put energy back into your life:
Do you feel tired lots of times and just don’t feel like doing anything? Well, the extra pounds you carry around just might be the reason. Getting and keeping a healthy weight will give you new energy to face other challenges!

Of course there are many other factors that can give you great weight loss motivation!

Why and when you should not be losing weight:

An already low BMI!

If your bmi is 24 to 20 or even below you should probably not be losing weight. If your situation is very special and your doctor tells you – with a very good reason – that you have to lose weight, well, get a second opinion. Otherwise you already look great, have a very health body mass index and should only lose weight in very exceptional cases with professional supervision.

The beauty hype of Hollywood and the catwalks...
Open any magazine and after a few pages you will see some skinny model or Hollywood star in an advertising. Why are they in the advertisement? Because they look good and/or they are famous. Our beauty ideal is strongly based on skinny people. Catwalk models die because of the obsession with skinny.

We strongly warn against wanting to lose weight because you compare yourself with a beauty ideal on the big screen and on the billboards.

For starters, you most likely cannot compete, as these professionals are paid to look like they do. It is there job to look like they do. You most likely have a job where you do not get paid to be skinny? Then that most probably also means that you do not have the time and money to spend as if your body is your capital.

We further feel it is the wrong weight loss motivation to try to look like the stars. You should be or become comfortable with your unique body and beauty. Realize that you are beautiful in your unique way. If you have a few extra pounds, you should want to lose them for the right reasons, not just because society put some pressure on you.

And if you are already very skinny (bmi below 19) and feel obsessed with losing more and more weight, please get professional counseling.

Do you have your proper weight loss motivation in place? Great! Then prepare yourself for your weight loss journey!
